Legendary Chests are perhaps the most coveted Collectible in God of War Ragnarok. These golden chests typically reward items such as Runic Attacks, Weapon Attachments, or Amulet Enchantments, as well as some Resources. Of course, getting to them is often the hardest part! This section of IGN's God of War: Ragnarok guide details how to find all Legendary Chests and the rewards they contain.

Aurvangar Wetlands Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in the Aurvangar Wetlands.

Aurvangar Wetlands - Legendary Chest 1

advertisement

Aurvangar Wetlands - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Blades Attachment - Deadly Obsidian Handles

Found in an optional side area just after you lower the wall to pass North. Keep left and you may spot the Legendary Chest on a raised wooden platform. To get here, sail further along and spot a section you can slip the boat under.

Once through, dock the boat on the shore to your left, then jump up the wooden ledge on your left.

From here, head left to the far edge to find the Legendary Chest. This Chest contains Deadly Obsidian Handles, Level 1 Handles that give 4 Strength.

Modvitnir's Rig Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in Modvitnir's Rig.

Modvitnir’s Rig - Legendary Chest 1

Modvitnir’s Rig - Legendary Chest 1

advertisement

  • Contains: Yggdrasil Seed - Muspelheim Seed Half

The Legendary Chest in Modvitnir’s Rig is almost impossible to miss, so long as you visit the area. From the beach, make your way up the ledge, kill the Wretches, leap up the ledge on your right, hit the plate with your Axe to open the door, then jump across the gap. From here you can climb left, around and up the tower. At the top, the Legendary Chest will be right in front of you.

This chest will reward you with one half of the Muspelheim Yggradsil Seed. Collecting both will let you travel to Muspelheim via Mystic Gateways!

Althjof’s Rig Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in Althjof's Rig.

Althjof’s Rig - Legendary Chest 1

Althjof’s Rig - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Axe Light Runic Attack - Njord’s Tempest

The second Lore at Althjof’s Rig can be accessed once you reach the furnace tower at the top of the rig. Here, face South and note two wooden barrels with Soundstone plates in the shade of the left-hand wall. Use Atreus’ Sonic Arrows to destroy them.

Shimmy around the corner here, then drop down the gold chain. Jump across the gap and you’ll return to the wheel that moves a grapple point. Use it to raise the grapple point as high as it will go.

advertisement

Climb back up the gold chain, turn left, then use the grapple point to get across. Before you fall, grapple again to smash through a stone wall and into a small room. From here, grab the Scroll if you wish, then find the doorway on the right that goes back outside. At the end of the walkway is the Legendary Chest!

Lyngbakr Island Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found on Lyngbakr Island.

Lyngbakr Island - Legendary Chest 1

Lyngbakr Island - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains:
    • Shield Attachment - Rond of Aggravation
    • 5 Whispering Slabs

The Legendary Chest on Lyngbakr Island is a bit of a misnomer, because it’s not actually located on the island itself. You’ll actually encounter it towards the end of The Weight of Chains Labor, where you’ll use a rope to zipline across to a distant clifftop. The Legendary Chest will be visible directly in front of you.

If you missed this Legendary Chest and need to return to it, look for the boat dock just East of Lyngbakr Island and moor there. Climb up the gold chain, then go through the doorway on your right. The Legendary Chest will be visible to your left.

The Chest will contain a Rond of Aggravation. It boosts your Defense, Vitality and Luck, and has a high chance of giving a Rage Burst when parrying, making it a great first Rond for early in the game.

Jarnsmida Pitmines Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in Jarnsmida Pitmines.

Jarnsmida Pitmines - Legendary Chest 1

Jarnsmida Pitmines - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Blades Attachment - Pommels of the Undying Spark

This Legendary Chest is found towards the end of the Jarnsmida Pitmines area, in the battle area where Sindri gives Kratos and Atreus new sources of light, just after Kratos shifts a cart to the side. To start, stand where the cart is and face forwards into the cave: here, make a wide U-turn to your right.

Here you should spot a pillar holding up the water trough with gold segments: use the Blades of Chaos to turn the end of the trough, which will cause a giant crate holding a stone block to move towards you. While it’s doing this, use the explosive pot to your left to destroy the gold rocks, letting you leap up to the crane’s stone block once it’s in position.

Once you’re on top of the stone block, throw the Leviathan Axe into the end of the trough: this blocks the water flow, making the crane move you to its original starting position.

When the stone block has finally stopped moving, you can have Kratos hang off the side of the stone black and then leap over to a new area.

advertisement

From there, follow the mine cart tracks uphill: the Legendary Chest will be at the top on your right, close to an Artifact.

The chest contains the Pommels of the Undying Spark, which has +6 Strength, +3 Runic, and has Scorching Burn, which increases the damage the Burn status inflicts.

There are two Legendary Chests to be found in The Applecore.

The Applecore - Legendary Chest 1

The Applecore - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Axe Attachment - Fortified Frost Knob

This Legendary Chest can be found after you pick up your first Relic in the flooded room. The final Artifact in the Things Left Behind set is found after you pick up your first Relic in the flooded room. Shuffle through the crack in the wall, then destroy some hanging Soundstone rocks with Sonic Arrows so you can grapple to the other side. Once you’ve done this, you’ll walk through a curved wooden walkway.

At the end of the wooden walkway, turn left and grapple across the gap, then turn left again and drop down into the lower area. Go through the door on your right to enter the room with the Legendary Chest. However you’ll have to fight and defeat the Draugr Hole before you can open it.

advertisement

The chest contains the Fortified Frost Knob for your axe. With 4 Strength and 5 Cooldown, it’s a good replacement for The Furious Maul if you don't intend to upgrade that. It also has the Frost Resolve Perk, boosting Defense and Stagger Resistance when you use Frost Awaken.

SPOILER WARNING

All of the Legendary Chests below can only be acquired later in the game with new equipment. As such, BEWARE OF SPOILERS!!

The Applecore - Legendary Chest 2

The Applecore - Legendary Chest 2

  • Prerequisite: Complete the Forging Destiny main quest
  • Contains: Axe Attachment - Banahogg Knob

This Legendary Chest is found on the Northern end of The Applecore, however you cannot return that way until you complete the Forging Destiny main quest, giving you a new piece of equipment.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to begin the lengthy process of returning to The Applecore and progressing through it. Return to The Applecore by going to the Mystic Gateway in the Aurvangar Wetlands, then take the ferry that goes North-West to the Sverd Sands. Here you’ll find the elevator back into The Applecore.

Once you’re down here, look for the Rope Frame you can now use to create a shortcut. Ride the zipline down to the bottom, then continue North through the tunnel.

advertisement

When you round the corner, you’ll see a high wall with a Wind Vent on the side. Use your new equipment to plug it up, then climb up the wall to the top.

At the top, head forward and you’ll see a large boulder with a yellow Wind Fissure on it. Throw your new equipment into it and then detonate it with the Triangle button, destroying the boulder.

Head forward and then right, then use the grapple point to cross the gap and climb up the ledge. Head through the tunnel, then kick the chain down at the end so you can slide down to the next room.

If you’ve not returned here before after your first visit, then you’ll have to face a boss first: Miklimunnr the troll. He fights like any other troll, however his fiery attacks can take huge chunks out of your health even on the easiest of difficulties.

From this room, head left through the crawlspace, then out the other side, go through the double doors on your right.

Here in this room, look to your right for a spot on the wall you can shimmy across, then head down the hallway.

On the other side, veer left and cross over the gap with the grapple point, onto the spiral walkway.

advertisement

As you go down the spiral walkway, keep an eye out on your right for a gap in the fence, with two rope-chains flanking it. Kick down the metal plate if you need to, then drop down below.

Here, head forward and take a right: jump across the gap, then slip under the wooden trough (if you never took this route before, you’ll have to destroy some gold rocks by going left first and blowing up the Red Pot).

On the other side of the trough, use the grapple point on your left to cross over the blue-lit gap, then leap up to the top of the ledge on your right. There, go through the double doors.

Next, look around on your left for a Wind Vent, close to a ledge you can mount up. Instead of doing that, head to the right-hand side of this area and use your new equipment to plug up the vent. You can then swing across the gap.

Once you cross the gap, head down the hallway directly ahead: there’ll be a Mystic Gateway here, and a normal metal gate that Kratos can lift up.

On the other side, you’ll have to fight a Wicked Grim, a Wretch, and a Wild Wretch. After defeating them, return to the doorway and face North: head left and then slip through the crawlspace.

advertisement

On the other side of this tunnel, leap up to the top of the wall on your left. Head down the bend, and you’ll be back at the main entrance to The Applecore from the Jarnsmida Pitmines.

From this spot, head right, but keep an eye out for the Rune Slate on your left. Carve the rune into it, and a wall will open up with the Legendary Chest behind it!

The chest contains the Banahogg Knob, which increases Kratos’ bare-handed damage for a duration after he throws the Axe.

Myrkr Tunnels Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in the Myrkr Tunnels.

Myrkr Tunnels - Legendary Chest 1

Myrkr Tunnels - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Axe Heavy Runic Attack - Fog of Fimbulwinter

This Legendary Chest is found in the puzzle where you have to raise a gate by pulling a chain, then using the Axe to freeze a gear so you can pass through. This occurs after Sindri tries to talk to Kratos, and you have to push a cart out of the way.

advertisement

Instead of opening the gate with the chain, stand at the chain, face away from the gate towards an intersection, then go right. Here will be some Red Fungi Bramble: burn it down with a Hex and Blazing Surge combo, then head forward to the chest!

The chest contains the Fog of Fimbulwinter, a Heavy Runic Attack for the Leviathan Axe. This fires a wide wave of ice that deals massive Frost damage, freezing practically anything in its path!

The Forge Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in The Forge.

The Forge - Legendary Chest 1

The Forge - Legendary Chest 1

  • Prerequisite: Begin the Forging Destiny main quest
  • Contains: Blades Heavy Runic Attack - Atlas Eruption

While you pass by The Forge during your initial visit to Svartalfheim, you won’t be able to access this Legendary Chest until you begin the Forging Destiny main quest.

Once you do, you’ll be solving a puzzle by trying to plug up two geysers at once in order to open a gate (to do this, freeze the left-hand geyser with the Leviathan Axe, then ask your companion to turn the crank and manually plug up the right-hand one). Once you’ve done this, head through the open gate and the chest will be right in front of you.

The chest contains the Atlas Eruption Heavy Runic Attack for the Blades of Chaos. This causes explosions in the ground around Kratos that ends with an explosive shockwave, sending enemies flying. The downside is that this leaves Kratos wide open to anyone outside the attack’s initial range.

Alberich Hollow Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in Alberich Hollow.

Alberich Hollow - Legendary Chest 1

Alberich Hollow - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Yggdrasil Seed - Muspelheim Seed Half

This Legendary Chest is found just before you enter the tunnel in Alberich Hollow via the giant walkway on Dragon Beach. From the huge dwarf statue, head left downhill and you’ll have to fight some Cursed Grims and a Bergsra.

Once they’re down, note the Legendary Chest on the right-hand wall encased in gold rock. Look for a lava rock dispenser ahead and on the left-hand wall: grab one and chuck it at the gold rocks to free the chest!

The chest contains half of the Muspelheim Yggdrasil Seed. If you haven’t already, go to Modvinir’s Rig on the Western side of this bay to collect the other half: that’ll let you travel to Muspelheim!

Alberich Hollow - Legendary Chest 2

Alberich Hollow - Legendary Chest

  • Contains:
    • Folkvangr Whetstone
    • 5,000 Hacksilver

advertisement

The one piece of Lore in Alberich Hollow is found at the Northern end of the tunnel. After you fight and defeat a Grim called Ormstunga, you can go under a fallen rock pillar and find a wall of gold rocks. To destroy it you’ll need a lava rock, but you can’t pass under the fallen rock pillar whilst holding one.

To solve this, backtrack a bit back down the tunnel and look for the lava rock dispenser on your left. Grab a rock, return to the fallen rock pillar, but this time vault up the ledge on your left.

Here on your right you’ll have a view of the gold rocks: throw a lava rock at them to destroy them!

With that done, pass back under the fallen rock pillar and then make your way to the end of the tunnel. The Legendary Chest will be here on the left.

In addition to 5,000 Hacksilver, the chest also has a Folkvangr Whetstone, which you can use to upgrade your companion’s sword.

Alberich Island Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found on Alberich Island.

Alberich Island - Legendary Chest 1

Alberich Island - Legendary Chest 1

advertisement

  • Contains:
    • Amulet Fragment - Jewel of Yggdrasil
    • 30 Whispering Slabs
    • 45,000 Hacksilver

This Legendary Chest is found on Alberich Island, however you cannot get to it until you complete the Forging Destiny main quest and pick up a new piece of equipment.

Once you’ve done this, return to Alberich Island’s main beach, then look for the Wind Vent on the right-hand wall: use your new equipment on it, then climb up the wall to the top.

Here, head right up the wooden ramp to the top of an elevator, but the lift is down at the bottom. To raise it, fire a Sonic Arrow at the Soundstone rock on your left, then head through and right down the wooden ramp.

At the bottom, look right towards the elevator, and you can see a rock with a Wind Fissure on it: throw a Draupnir Spear at it and then detonate it, allowing the geyser to flow and raise the lift.

Head on over to it and use the grapple point to make it onto a wooden platform.

There’s a Coffin hidden under the elevator! To get it, turn around, then plug up the geyser using the Leviathan Axe. This will lower the lift, allowing you to grapple back over and then find the Coffin hidden behind the wooden wall.

Now that you’re on the platform, you need to get up to the top of the island via another geyser-powered lift. Freezing it will lower the lift, but the geyser is protected by a metal barrier you have to lower. To start towards fixing this, face the island, then use the grapple point on your left.

advertisement

Once you’re over there, vault up the ledge, then turn around. You’ll be able to see a large rock with a Wind Fissure on it: throw a Draupnir Spear into it, then blow it up to destroy the rock.

From here, head around the corner to find a chain crank: use it to lower the barrier around the geyser. Next, look for a yellow gear on your right (if you can’t see it, you didn’t destroy the rock!). Place a Hex Bubble on the yellow gear, then throw the Leviathan Axe at it to freeze it: the Hex Bubble will retain the freeze for several seconds once the axe is removed, so you’re safe to leave and continue.

With that in place, return to the wooden platform and go to the left side, where you can see the exposed geyser. Aim at the base of the geyser, then quickly recall the Axe and throw it at the geyser before the Hex Bubble expires. This will lower the lift, allowing you to grapple over to it!

Once you’re on the lift, recall the Axe and the lift will automatically raise back up again. At the top, you’ll have to defeat several Cursed Wretches before you can move on.

Once the Wretches are dead, face West and look for the grapple point on the opposite wall, below the wooden building. Use it to get to the top of the island, and the Chest will be directly ahead!

The chest contains a Jewel of Yggdrasil, which you can use to repair a socket in Kratos’ enchantment amulet.

Nidavellir Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in Nidavellir.

Nidavellir - Legendary Chest 1

Nidavellir - Legendary Chest 1

  • Prerequisite: Complete the Forging Destiny main quest
  • Contains: Blades Attachment - Hardened War Handles

The Legendary Chest in Nidavellir is visible from your first visit, however you cannot actually reach it until much later in the game. You’ll know when you return to Svartalfheim and have picked up a new piece of equipment.

Once you’ve acquired it, return to Nidavellir and go to the end of the sewer passage you originally used to get from the marketplace with the Odin statue to the Eastern side of town. Face North, then run North up the main road to a square with a well in the middle.

Here, check the back-right corner for a Wind Vent you can throw your new equipment into. Use it to climb to the upper area: the Legendary Chest will be here on your left.

  • The Raven Tree
  • Frozen Caverns
  • Aesir Prison Wreckage

Six Legendary Chests can be unlocked at The Raven Tree.

The Raven Tree - Legendary Chests 1-6

The first six Legendary Chests in Niflheim are unique, because they are initially locked. You can find them at The Raven Tree, directly South of the main Mystic Gateway and Brok’s workshop.

To unlock these Legendary Chests, you need to hit certain milestones of Odin’s Ravens; they unlock in a clockwise direction, starting with the lower chest on the left-hand side. Opening a chest will reward a unique item.

Frozen Caverns Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in Nidavellir.

Frozen Caverns - Legendary Chest-U 1

advertisement

Frozen Caverns - Legendary Chest-U 1

  • Contains: Runic Summon - Bitter Squirrel

This Legendary Chest is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.

This Legendary Chest is found as you explore the Frozen Caverns as Atreus. At a certain point you’ll drop down a ledge and see a grapple point on your right to cross a gap.

Ignore it for a moment and head around the frozen pillar: up the ledge will be the Legendary Chest.

The chest contains the Bitter Squirrel Runic Summon, which summons Ratatoskr’s Bitter spectral form to dig up a Healthstone. Upgrades will have Bitter dig up multiple Healthstones! Notably, Bitter has a sassy personality, especially if you don’t actually use any of the items he digs up.

Aesir Prison Wreckage Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in the Aesir Prison.

Aesir Prison Wreckage - Legendary Chest 1

Aesir Prison Wreckage - Legendary Chest 1

advertisement

  • Contains: Companion Accessory - Nocked Proficiency

This Legendary Chest is found on the top floor of the Aesir Prison, however getting to it is one of the more brain-tickling puzzles in the game. First, you’ll want to clear out the tower first of any enemies and use the two Wind Vent frames to help swing down. You can move the Wind Vents using the chain cranks.

Eventually, you’ll make your way to the bottom floor. We’ll start our instructions here to act as a common reset point.

For clarity, we’ll refer to the floors in ascending order. So the bottom floor is Floor 4, while the top floor is Floor 1.

To begin, jump up the Eastern swing pole to get from Floor 4 to Floor 3.

Next, look for the chain crank in the North-Western corner of the room and use it to raise a Wind Pole frame up as high as it’ll go.

Let go of the chain crank, then look South: you should see a blue-framed window you can vault through.

Inside the room, turn around and look up: you’ll see a cracked wall you can breach through with the Blades of Chaos. This will get you up to Floor 3.

advertisement

When you get to the top, look North to spot a gate you can yank open via a grapple point. It’ll be opposite the local Nornir Chest.

Head through the gate and look right through the opening: you’ll now be able to climb up to the Legendary Chest on Floor 1 using the swing pole you moved earlier! If you want to access the rest of Floor 1, use the grapple point here to open another gate.

The chest contains the Nocked Proficiency accessory for your companion, making every third Runic Arrow fired have an additional arrow.

To the left of the chest near a corpse is an easily-missed Relic: Motsognir’s Call. It creates a shockwave that deals a high amount of Stun to surrounding enemies.

All Alfheim Legendary Chests Locations

The Alfheim Legendary Chests section has been ordered by when you can visit them earliest in the game. Use the list below to jump to a specific collectible:

  • The Strond
  • Temple of Light
  • The Below
  • The Barrens
  • The Burrows
  • The Forbidden Sands

The Strond Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in The Strond.

advertisement

The Strond - Legendary Chest 1

The Strond - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Axe Light Runic Attack - Skadi’s Edge

The Legendary Chest in The Strond is found just after you first use Twilight Stone to destroy a wooden door from behind and fight some Wretches. Standing in the doorway facing the way forward, you should see a ledge just ahead that you can drop down.

Do so, head left, then destroy the debris blocking the way, then kill the two Wretches who show up. In the room beyond the doorway will be the Legendary Chest, sitting next to an Artifact.

The chest contains the Skadi’s Edge Light Runic Attack, which slows time down so you can target specific enemies, then throw the Axe to ricochet between them.

Temple of Light Legendary Chests

There are three Legendary Chests to be found in the Temple of Light.

Temple of Light - Legendary Chest 1

Temple of Light - Legendary Chest 1

advertisement

  • Contains: Blades Light Runic Attack - Hades Retribution

This chest can be found in a side-area just after Tyr jumps across some hanging panels to give you a way to cross a gap. Once you’re across, head right into a room with a Hacksilver Chest and a curved staircase.

Partway up this staircase will be a flat area, with a ledge on the left that you can drop down.

At the bottom, turn right to find a fork guarded by four Wretches: make a U-turn to the left to drop down another ledge. Kill the two Wretches here, then open the Legendary Chest.

The chest contains the Hades Retribution Light Runic Attack for the Blades of Chaos. It trades the small area of effect that Flames of Anguish has for dealing more damage to a singular target, making it good for using on a priority target.

Temple of Light - Legendary Chest 2

Temple of Light Legendary Chest 2

  • Contains: Relic - Hilt of Gram

This Legendary Chest is found at the door puzzle shortly after your first encounter with Light Elf Mystics (the ones that focus on ranged attacks). For this particular puzzle, you’ll need to drop down the left-hand side of a lower area where you can turn a wheel, letting you rotate a Twilight Stone.

advertisement

Instead of doing that, however, look for the circular door nearby that lets you cross under the walkway to an entirely new puzzle: a chain on the left that controls an elevator with the Legendary Chest with a breakable target, and a Twilight Stone that turns as it’s moved. The trick is that the Twilight Stone is not at the right angle when it’s level with the elevator’s target.

To get around this, move the Twilight Stone as high as it can go: when you throw your Axe at it, it’ll bounce behind the elevator shaft and get stuck in some white stone. Next, raise the elevator as high as it can go so that the target is level with the white stone: recall the Axe, and it’ll break the target!

Drop down and claim your reward, but be careful on the way back up as you’ll be swarmed by some Wretches and a Gloom Nightmare.

The chest contains the Hilt of Garn Relic, which gives Kratos a shot of Rage and stuns any enemies close to him.

Temple of Light - Legendary Chest 3

Temple of Light - Legendary Chest 3

  • Contains: Companion Accessory - Rune-Engraved Release

This chest is found in the large chasm area where you need to get across after Tyr jumps the gap, but requires you to take a longer route. To start, hang down off the first ledge and then grapple across to the first plate on your left.

advertisement

Once there, the normal way is to grapple over to Tyr; instead, look left to see another plate to grapple to. From there you can continue to solid ground.

Next you’ll need to lower a Light Door to access the chest. At the safe spot, turn right to spot a Twilight Stone hanging into view. The goal is to swing the Twilight Stone with the Blades so that you can get the right angle and throw the Axe at it and break the Light Crystal.

To ease the process, equip the Axe first: Kratos will switch back to it automatically after you’ve yanked with the Blades. As well, you can yank the Twilight Stone to the left first: this gives you more time to line up your shot for when the stone swings back to the right.

Once the Light Crystal has been cut in half, continue left to another grapple plate, then leap across to the walkway and open the Legendary Chest!

The chest contains the Rune-Engraved Release accessory, which makes the first Runic-charged arrow (like Sonic Arrows) deal more damage if his quiver is full.

The Below Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in The Below.

The Below - Legendary Chest 1

The Below - Legendary Chest 1

advertisement

  • Contains:
    • Chest Armor - Shoulder Straps of Radiance
    • 5 Whispering Slabs

This Legendary Chest is found at the very end of The Below during the Secret of the Sands favor. It’ll be in the back-left corner of the final room with the sparkling particles above and the dead Light Elves on the ground.

There are three Legendary Chests to be found in The Barrens.

The Barrens - Legendary Chest 1

The Barrens - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Wrist Armor - Gauntlets of Radiance

This Legendary Chest is found at the Elf building in the North of the Barrens, and just East of the large Elf gate. The building will be occupied by two Dark Elves and a Dark Elf Lord.

Once they’re defeated, check outside the South-West area of the building: the Legendary Chest will be there, next to a Lore Scroll.

The Barrens - Legendary Chest 2

advertisement

The Barrens - Legendary Chest 2

  • Contains: Waist Armor - Belt of Radiance

This Legendary Chest is found in the giant skeleton in the North-East area of The Barrens. Enter the mouth and then look for a wall you can leap up to, leading you through the skeleton’s mouth.

Inside is a battle area, where you’ll fight many Grims, Cursed Grims, and Wretches. Once they’re all down, look for the wall you can climb up in the East part of the room.

The Artifact will be here at the top of the wall, close to an Artifact.

The Barrens - Legendary Chest 3

  • Prerequisite: Complete the Secret of the Sands Favor
  • Contains: Shield Attachment - Rond of Affliction

This Legendary Chest is found in a small cave just South-East of the entrance to The Barrens from The Canyons. However, you cannot enter it until you’ve completed the Secret of the Sands Favor. Once you’ve done this, look for a gap you can slip through between two stone walls.

Inside you’ll see the chest on the opposite side of the cave, but it’s being blocked by some Nest Vines.

advertisement

To break the Nest Vines, look for some Twilight Stone nearby to rebound your Axe off of. In order to cut all three Nest Vines, stand right next to the Vine closest to the Legendary Chest. Throw the Axe into the Twilight Stone, then recall the Axe the moment it cuts the second Vine: it’ll cut through the third one on the way over to you!

The gear inside is the Rond of Affliction, which causes an elemental explosion when a Status-Afflicted enemy is hit by a Shield Strike (done by double-tapping L1 by default). This pairs incredibly well with Atreus’ arrows!

The Burrows Legendary Chests

There are two Legendary Chests to be found in The Burrows.

The Burrows - Legendary Chest 1

The Burrows - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Axe Light Runic Attack - Hel’s Touch

This Legendary Chest is found in the second major battle area of The Burrows, where you face off against Grims and a Dark Elf for the second time. Once you’re done, locate the exit door and climb up the wall to it.

Once you’re at the top, turn around and look to your left to spot a wall of glowing Nest Matter, and a Twilight Stone below it. Throw the Leviathan Axe at it, cutting the Nest Matter and revealing a grapple point on the wall.

advertisement

Grapple to that point, climb up and right along the wall to a new grapple point, then turn around and use the hanging grapple point to cross the gap over to where the Legendary Chest is!

The chest contains the Hel’s Touch Light Runic Attack for the Axe. While not particularly powerful, this is the fastest Runic Attack in the game, has a short cooldown, and will knock back and interrupt enemies, making it very handy in a tight pinch.

The Burrows - Legendary Chest 2

The Burrows - Legendary Chest 2

  • Contains: Axe Heavy Runic Attack - Nemean Crush

The second Legendary Chest in The Burrows is found right after you destroy the bonds of the Hafgufa. After doing that, you’ll drop down into a lower area and face a Bergsra. At the far end will be the Legendary Chest, close to an Artifact.

The chest contains the Nemean Crush Heavy Runic Attack for the Blades of Chaos. This is a fast, one-shot move that deals high damage, and knocks back surrounding enemies.

The Forbidden Sands Legendary Chests

There are two Legendary Chests to be found in The Forbidden Sands.

The Forbidden Sands - Legendary Chest 1

advertisement

The Forbidden Sands - Legendary Chest 1

  • Prerequisite: Complete the Song of the Sands Favor
  • Contains: Blades Attachment - Hardened War Handles

This Legendary Chest is found in the Southern-most corner of The Forbidden Sands. However, you cannot enter its location until you’ve completed the Song of the Sands Favor. Once you have, look for the ledge you can mount up, then defeat the two Grims that appear. To get to the chest, you’ll need to solve a Nest Vine puzzle with Twilight Stone axe bounces.

In the local area is a Coffin, which is actually entirely optional here! To free it, head to the left-hand side of the area, then aim for the right-hand Twilight Stone (you don’t have to move it). Throw it so that it reflects off and cuts the Nest Vines on the right, freeing a Coffin with 2 Stonewood and 711 Hacksilver.

The main puzzle requires freeing the left-hand Twilight Stone from its Hel’s Bramble. To do that, set up two Hex Bubbles with Sigil Arrows: one on the stone itself, and another on the wall to the left. Make sure to expand them with more Sigil Arrows so that they connect, then head to the left and ignite one with a Blazing Surge from the Blades of Chaos.

With the left Twilight Stone freed, hit it twice on the left-hand paddle to spin it into position, then turn the right-hand Twilight Stone once to the left.

Now that they’re both in position, stand on the left-hand side of the area and throw your Axe into the left Twilight Stone. It should rebound to the right Twilight Stone, then off of that into the three Nest Vines! The Legendary Chest is now yours!

The chest contains the Hardened War Handles. In addition to 20 Strength, the Banishing Blade perk increases the damage and stun of the Hyperion Grapple and Hyperion Pull moves.

The Forbidden Sands - Legendary Chest 2

advertisement

The Forbidden Sands - Legendary Chest 2

  • Contains:
    • Amulet Fragment - Jewel of Yggdrasil
    • 13 Whispering Slabs

This scroll is in the Light Elf ruins in the North-East corner of The Forbidden Sands, where The Elven Sanctum Favor takes place.

It’ll be in the main library room that you first arrive in: turn around to face the entryway, then climb up one of the side ledges and make your way to the back. The Legendary Chest will be here.

The chest contains a Jewel of Yggdrasil, which allows you to repair a socket in Kratos’ Enchantment Amulet.

This Legendary Chest is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.

  • Contains: Runic Summon - Rampaging Ibex

This Lore Scroll is found under the canopy of large chain mail (visible on the map as large cyan rings). At a certain point you’ll use Sonic Arrows to lower a grapple point, use it to cross a gap, then turn right and use another grapple point.

After doing so, you’ll see some Nightmares floating up ahead. Kill them, then open up the Legendary Chest on the right!

Vimur River Legendary Chests

  • Contains: Companion Accessory - Runestone Refinement

This Legendary Chest is found in the river after Atreus and Angrbroda skip stones, before being attacked by Draugr.

After defeating them, hop onto Jalla the Yak and keep an eye out on your right for the Legendary Chest up on a giant tree stump. To get to it, look across on the left side of the river for a spot where you can climb up (with Jalla’s assistance). Once up top, turn around and grapple across the gap to the chest!

Idi’s Sinkhole Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in Idi's Sinkhole.

Idi’s Sinkhole - Legendary Chest-U 1

Idi’s Sinkhole - Legendary Chest-U 1

This Legendary Chest is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.

  • Contains: Companion Accessory - Runic Potency

This Legendary Chest is found within Idi’s Sinkhole. While it’s visible early on, it requires the absolute longest path in the cave to reach. So, please pay attention!

To begin, after you get to the bottom of the sinkhole, you’ll slip under a gap into a cave system. Ahead will be a large red plant bathed in sunlight. This is the starting point.

advertisement

First, look for a torch you can tell Angrbroda to light. Do so, then climb up the ledge to the left of the torch.

Up the ledge is a split with a table in the middle: take the right-hand path towards a Draugr (passing under a wooden bridge above), then light the torch at the end corner.

To the right of the torch is a ledge: climb up it.

Up ahead will be a rock column on your right: light the torch on it, then head right and vault over the fallen rock column. Light the torch ahead.

At this torch, head right and cross over the bridge (this is the one you passed under earlier). Light the torch on the other side, then continue and jump over the gap in the next wooden bridge.

On the other side, light the torch on your left on the rock.

advertisement

Continue forwards and around the corner. At the intersection at the far end, light the torch on your left.

Turn left at the intersection to find the last torch to light.

That torch will be overlooking a ledge: drop down it, and the chest will be on your right! Well done!

The Southern Wilds Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in The Southern Wilds.

advertisement

The Southern Wilds - Legendary Chest 1

The Southern Wilds - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Axe Light Runic Attack - Wrath of the Frost Ancient

The Legendary Chest in The Southern Wilds is found in the ruined marketplace in the middle of the region. After the fight with the poisonous Legions, go to the corner that gets you to the next area, but check the left-hand wall for some tree roots. To the left of them is a spot you can slip under: turn right and you’ll find the chest!

The chest gives you Wrath of the Frost Ancient, a Light Runic Attack that fires an ice beam that staggers enemies and, when upgraded, deals heavy damage. Its flaws are that it has a pinpoint area of effect that demands precise aim, and it doesn’t last very long unless you keep holding R1. It’s better used on large targets where precise aim isn’t demanded.

The Abandoned Village Legendary Chests

There are three Legendary Chests to be found in The Abandoned Village.

The Abandoned Village - Legendary Chest 1

The Abandoned Village - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Shield Attachment - Rond of Restoration

advertisement

This Legendary Chest can be found starting from where you enter The Abandoned Village and you go through the two huts.

At the first hut, look left and turn the crane so you can grapple across into the second hut. There, look out the left-hand doorway and hit the crane again so you can grapple over to dry land.

There, head West across the bridge, and you’ll find a Draugr Hole in the cave. After defeating The Hateful, look for the low gap in the wall behind the Hole and slip under it.

On the other side, climb up the ledge, jump the gap into the hut, and the Legendary Chest will be ahead on the right!

The chest contains the Rond of Restoration, which, whenever you take damage, gives a chance to gain Defense and for your next Shield Strike hit to restore some health. This chance increases the lower your health is.

The Abandoned Village - Legendary Chest 2

The Abandoned Village - Legendary Chest 2

  • Contains: Shield - Shatter Star Shield

advertisement

This Legendary Chest is found in The Abandoned Village’s Great Hall. After you encounter your first blue Scorn Plant (the one that leaves poisonous gas on the ground), you’ll destroy some explosive acid plants and then climb a gold chain up onto a wooden walkway.

At the top, keep an eye out on the right for a gap in the railing, where you can see the Legendary Chest among Scorn Plant gas. The Scorn Plant itself is to the right of the chest: throw your Axe at it to remove the gas, then drop down and open the chest!

The chest contains the Shatter Star Shield, which replaces the Shield Strike with the Shield Punch that blows enemies backward. Holding L1 will charge up the move, increasing its power. Notably, the charge will hold even when you retract the shield again, letting you charge up the Shield Strike in advance, such as before a fight.

The Abandoned Village - Legendary Chest 3

The Abandoned Village - Legendary Chest 3

  • Contains: Blades Light Runic Attack - Helios Flare

This Legendary Chest can be found at the second, optional wooden crane puzzle that you encounter shortly after defeating Fiske. You’ll need to get across the gap, but the stone column prevents you from turning the crane’s grapple point into position.

If you drop off the wooden ledge and head left, you’ll find a Coffin with 1 Honed Metal and 553 Hacksilver!

advertisement

First, look for a gap in the wall at the base of a tree lit up by a torch: vault through, punch open the Hacksilver Chest, then head left to the end of the tunnel. Here you can use the Blades of Chaos to pull down the stone column.

Return to the starting ledge and now grapple across the gap. Head through the curved corridor (defeating the spitter plant along the way), then at the far end, turn the crane back so you can grapple across. The Legendary Chest will be there!

The chest will hold the Helios Flare Light Runic Attack for the Blades of Chaos, which has Kratos fire a fiery projectile.

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in Pilgrim's Landing.

Pilgrim’s Landing - Legendary Chest 1

Pilgrim’s Landing - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Axe Attachment - Grip of the Fallen Alchemist

This Lore Marker is in Pilgrim’s Landing, which are the ruined buildings in the river, found in the Northern area of The River Delta. First, beach at the area directly West of the ruins and kill the Reavers you find there.

advertisement

Next, head for the ruined building on the shoreline. Here will be a drawbridge held up by Red Fungi Bramble. Look for the Torch on the left side and fire a Sigil Arrow at it to ignite the bramble. Then, cut the two targets with the Leviathan Axe to lower the drawbridge.

On the other side on the left you’ll have to fight more Reavers, who are also backed up by two Cursed Nokken: defeat them to stop everyone else from rapidly healing! Once they’re down, look for the chandelier hanging from the huge tree at the East side of the river.

Here’s how to solve this puzzle and transfer the fire from the right-hand torch to the left-hand torch.

  • Cut the chandelier’s rope with the Leviathan Axe to lower it into position.
  • Use the Blades of Chaos to yank the chandelier to the right: this will light the right-hand torch on the chandelier.
  • To transfer the fire to the left-hand torch, wait for the chandelier to settle (speed this up by hitting it with the Axe), then place two Sigil “bubbles” on it: one under the left-hand torch, and one in the middle.
  • Fire a third Sigil Arrow at the lit torch: it will explode and chain to the other two, lighting the left-hand torch!
  • Yank the chandelier to the left, lighting the torch up near the Red Fungi Bramble.
  • Fire a Sigil Arrow at this torch and burn the Red Fungi Bramble down!

Now that you’ve solved the puzzle, check the North end of these ruins for a raised drawbridge: like before, cut the two targets to lower it. Head across the bridge, and the Legendary Chest will be dead ahead!

The chest contains the Grip of the Fallen Alchemist, which has a high chance of granting a Health Burst on a successful Serpent’s Snare hit (a Skill that lets you throw an enemy with the Axe by holding R2).

Noatun’s Garden Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in Noatun's Garden.

advertisement

Noatun’s Garden - Legendary Chest 1

Noatun’s Garden - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Amulet Fragment - Jewel of Yggdrasil

This Legendary Chest is found in Noatun’s Garden, specifically the ruins on the Northern river shore. The door is effectively locked, as its counterweight’s target is pinned under Red Fungi Bramble, meaning you cannot break it until the bramble is burned away.

To do this, you’ll need to get to the right spot so you can light the Fungi Brample. Hop into the boat and row through the roots of the giant tree to the West: take a right and you’ll find a beach to dock in.

Head up the stairs and all the way to the end of the stone bridge where the Coffin is. Here you’ll see the Red Fungi Bramble to the right along the wall: make a chain of Sigil Arrow Hexes so that you can light one with the Blades of Chaos’ Blazing Surge.

Once it’s been burned away, you can then cut the target by throwing your Axe at it through the hole in the ruins.

Return to the other side of the bridge and use the rope to quickly zip back to Noatun’s Garden.

advertisement

Enter the ruins through the open door, defeat the Nightmares that show up, then open up the chest for your reward!

The chest contains a Jewel of Yggdrasil, which allows you to repair one of the broken slots on the Amulet of Yggdrasil at a workshop.

Cliffside Ruins Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in the Cliffside Ruins.

Cliffside Ruins - Legendary Chest 1

Cliffside Ruins - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Axe Heavy Runic Attack - Mists of Helheim

This Legendary Chest can only be accessed by going through The Veiled Passage, the caves accessed at the Southern end of the river leading to Goddess Falls. This itself requires opening the door by climbing up the Cliffside Ruins and using the Rune Slate.

Once you’ve done all that and gotten to the end of The Veiled Passage, slide down the gold chain, then turn left and lower the drawbridge. A Reaver and three Nightmares will show up: defeat them!

advertisement

Once the enemies are down, stand on the ledge to the right of the drawbridge’s far end and look back across the bridge. On the other side you’ll see some gold rocks and Red Pots to detonate them. To do that, look for the red markings on the wall: place some Hex Bubbles on them with Sigil Arrows, then cross back across the bridge. Use a Blazing Surge to start a chain reaction that destroys the rocks!

With that done, drop down the ledge, then destroy the gold rocks ahead by hitting the Red Pot. This lets you access the chest!

The chest will contain what is likely your very first Heavy Runic Attack: Mists of Helheim for the Leviathan Axe. This causes a wide swath of the ground to be bathed in mist, inflicting Frost stats to any enemy inside of it.

Vanir Shrine Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in the Vanir Shrine.

Vanir Shrine - Legendary Chest 1

Vanir Shrine - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Blades Light Runic Attack - Rampage of the Furies

The Legendary Chest in Vanir Shrine is found in the Northern side-area, the one guarded by spitting plants and a drawbridge you have to bring down.

advertisement

Head across the bridge, right and up the slope, and then check the right-hand side of the area at the top to find the chest behind a gate.

To open it, head through the nearby doorway and go right up the slope. At the top, look right for some Hel’s Bramble that you can burn down with a Blazing Surge from the Blades of Chaos.

A crack in the wall will now be revealed, with a target visible on the other side. Cut it with the Leviathan Axe, and the gate will open up!

Head back down to the gate (now raised) and claim your prize.

The chest contains the Rampage of the Furies Light Runic Attack for the Blades of Chaos. This is a lengthy move that hits a target many times in its duration, but the wide arcs of the blades means it can accidentally keep other enemies at bay during the move, particularly behind Kratos.

SPOILER ALERT

The following Legendary Chests cannot be obtained until later in the game when their regions become available. As such, BEWARE OF SPOILERS!!

Freyr's Camp Legendary Chests

There are two Legendary Chests to be found in Freyr's Camp.

advertisement

Freyr’s Camp - Legendary Chest 1

Freyr’s Camp - Legendary Chest 1

  • Prerequisite: Complete the Forging Destiny main quest
  • Contains: 500 Divine Ashes

This Legendary Chest cannot be accessed until you’ve completed the Forging Destiny main quest and acquired a new piece of equipment during it.

Once you’ve done that, return all the way to Freyr’s Camp and head to the North-West path (to the left of the two Elves). Follow the path here across the river to find a Wind Fissure: destroy it using your new equipment, then head through and open the chest!

Freyr’s Camp - Legendary Chest 2

Freyr’s Camp - Legendary Chest 2

  • Prerequisite: Begin the Creatures of Prophecy main quest
  • Contains: Axe Heavy Runic Attack - Leviathan’s Roar

While this Legendary Chest is visible when you first visit Vanaheim, you won’t be allowed to return here with the necessary tools until you return here to begin the Creatures of Prophy main quest later in the game.

When you do, you’ll initially be going down the same path as the last time around. As you head North-East, you’ll come across the wooden structure spanning the river that you have to cross through. Then on the other side, you’ll fight several Cursed Gulons backed up by some Nokken.

advertisement

Once they’re done, turn around to face the river building, then spot the Wind Fissure on your right. Destroy it with a Draupnir Spear, then climb up onto the roof.

The chest contains Leviathan’s Roar, a Heavy Runic Attack for the Leviathan Axe. While it’s not that powerful, it’s among the fastest Heavy Runics in the game, and when upgraded and deal a great amount of Stun damage.

The Plains Legendary Chests

There is one Legendary Chest to be found in The Plains.

The Plains - Legendary Chest 1

The Plains - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Spear Heavy Runic Attack - Honor the Fallen

The Legendary Chest in The Plains is in the North-Western part of the region, and requires a little bit of work to get to. Head for the North-West corner of the main area with the lake and look for some fallen rocks with yellow Wind Fissures in them.

Stick a Draupnir Spear in each Wind Fissure. However, you can’t destroy it yet because there’s a third one on the back.

advertisement

Your route to the third Wind Fissure will differ depending on if you’ve been up to the local Celestial Altar or not. If you have and kicked down the metal plate on the ledge, head South a bit and leap up the ledge. If you haven’t, you’ll have to go North and head through a cave to get up top.

However you get up there, locate the Mystic Gateway and head to the ledge to the right of it overlooking some red trees. From here you can spot the rocks to your left: stick it with a Draupnir Spear, then destroy the rocks!

Drop down the ledge back into the main lake area and head through the new opening to the red tree meadow. The Legendary Chest will be in the back-right.

The chest contains the Honor the Fallen Heavy Runic Attack for the Draupnir Spear. While it has the same power as Artillery of the Ancients, it has a bit more Stun, and is a focused shockwave around Kratos, meaning aiming it isn’t much of an issue.

The Jungle Legendary Chests

There are two Legendary Chests to be found in The Jungle.

The Jungle - Legendary Chest 1

The Jungle - Legendary Chest 1

advertisement

  • Prerequisite: Complete the Return of the River Favor
  • Contains: Spear Light Runic Attack - Whisper of the World

This Legendary Chest is found among the ruins in the Eastern side of The Jungle. This means that the only way of getting to it is to complete the Return of the River Favor and then rowing across in a boat.

Start by going to the shore with the Celestial Altar and the Mystic Gateway. From the Celestial Altar, head East up the wall, then follow the path right, down the short drop and then left through the ruins.

You’ll then leap through the ruins using various grapple points, until you get to a safe ledge.

One the ledge, face North-East to spot the Red Fungi Bramble, which is covering a grapple point you can use to get over to the chest. Look for a spot of the ceiling that’s close to you, then set up a chain of enlarged Hex Bubbles so you can set them off with a Blazing Surge.

The chest contains a Light Runic Attack for the Draupnir Spear: Whisper of the World. This pulls enemies inwards before throwing them away in the direction Kratos is facing.

The Jungle - Legendary Chest 2

The Jungle - Legendary Chest 2

  • Prerequisites:
    • Complete the Return of the River Favor
    • Daytime
  • Contains: Amulet Fragment - Jewel of Yggdrasil

advertisement

This Legendary Chest has two requirements before you can reach it. First, you must complete the Return of the River Favor, which allows you to explore the South-Eastern half of the area via boat. Second, you need to find the Celestial Altar in that area and change the time to day.

Once you’ve done that, head to the dock in the North-Eastern corner of The Jungle that lets you slip through to the area where you fight the Ogres. Directly across from the entry point are vines with two grapple points: one to pull down a blocking wall, and another to get across the gap back to the North-Western side of The Jungle.

Once you’re across, head down the path, where you’ll have to make your way around a chasm via a long U-Turn whilst dodging spitter vine plants. When you jump across the chasm for the first time, make sure to kick down the gold chain! You should also try and destroy the vine plants by destroying the central bulb: locate a Scorn Plant, freeze it with the Leviathan Axe, then look for the bulb in the chasm and destroy it with a Hex Bubble and Blazing Surge.

When you jump across the chasm a second time, keep an eye out on your right for a stone wall: you’ll be able to slip through here to get to a Drake’s lair.

In the middle of the lair is a circular Vanir-made pit. Drop down it to wind up in the bottom of a cage.

To get out, turn around to spot a wooden spinner: hit the left-hand side with the Leviathan Axe to turn it and raise the cage momentarily.

Once you’re out, the Legendary Chest will be in the corridor leading to the exit gate.

  • Contains: Bow Ability - Splintered Sigil

This Legendary Chest is found as Atreus approaches Hrimthur’s Wall, close to where you first have to use Sigil Arrows to burn some Hel’s Bramble. It’ll be visible on the left just before the ledge you climb up to the wall of Hel’s Bramble blocking the path.

advertisement

  • The goal is to chain the Hex Bubbles and spread the campfire flames to the Hel’s Bramble.
  • An arrow fired at the campfire will immediately ignite, so you’ll want to set up the other two Hex Bubbles leading up to the campfire first. This is most easily done from the spot where the chest is.
  • Remember that you can remove all Hex Bubbles by aiming anywhere and pressing X.
  • Once you’ve set up the two bubbles, climb up the ledge and place the third Hex Bubble on the fire itself (your aiming reticule will light up pink when you do this).
  • DO NOT use a charged-up Sigil Arrow by holding R2: this will cause a Sigil explosion, which isn’t as effective!
  • If you’ve done it correctly, the Bramble will burn away and you can open the chest!

The chest contains the Splintered Sigil ability, which has Atreus fire a seeking Sigil arrow that, upon impact, splits and homes in on two other enemies.

  • Contains: Blades Heavy Runic Attack - Tartarus Rage

This Legendary Chest is found in the Raider Hideout, the cave at the base of the double doors in the Eastern area of the Lake of Nine. It’ll be sitting in the back-right corner of the room.

The chest contains the Tartarus Rage Heavy Runic Attack for the Blades of Chaos. It has Kratos slam each of the blades into the ground in a Y spread, creating fiery shockwaves that stagger and then launch enemies into the air. While upgrades can’t keep up the Damage and Burn of the Nemean Crush, it can get much more Stun capability.

This Legendary Chest is found in the Raider Stronghold, which is the base inside Tyr’s Temple. Check the North side of the Realm Bridge to find the entrance. Defeat all the Kol Raiders inside, then head to the exit hallway to find the Legendary Chest at the end.

The chest contains the Cyclone of Chaos, a Light Ronic Attack for the Blades of Chaos. This is a wide sweeping attack that’s great for crowd control, and can be upgraded to deal high amounts of Stun.

The chest contains Ivaldi’s Anvil, a Heavy Runic Attack for the Leviathan Axe. It releases a wide shockwave that staggers enemies backwards, making it a very good crowd control move.

The Lost Treasury - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains:
    • Companion Accessory - Sigil Punishment
    • Folkvangr Whetstone

This Legendary Chest is a lengthy one, because you have to complete it while you’re in the middle of solving the Tyr’s Shield puzzle that is the showcase of this area. The goal is to roll the shield just enough that a hole at the bottom lets you enter the gate of the building. This requires moving a makeshift stopper into position.

To begin, latch the Blades of Chaos onto the grapple point on the right-hand side of the shield, then yank it to the left. This will reveal the C Rune’s torch for the nearby Nornir Chest; it’s easier to light it now with Sigil Arrows and a Blazing Surge then later after you’ve solved the puzzle.

With that done, yank the shield back to the right, then climb up it to the right-hand side of the ruins. At the top, break the black pot to destroy the gold rocks, felling a stone column. While you can try and move the column with the Blades of Chaos, Tyr’s shield is in the way!

Head through the open doorway, defeat the Wisps that show up with the help of Hexes, then drop down the side of the building (don’t forget to loot the Coffin for 1 Petrified Bone and 871 Hacksilver). From here, latch onto the left-hand side of the shield and tug it to the left. This moves it out of the way so you can put the stone column into position.

Next, climb up the left-hand side of the shield to get back up to the left-hand side of the building, and the stone column you knocked down earlier. Yank it to the left, and it’ll now be sticking out over the edge of the roof. This will stop the shield from rolling too far! Loot the Hacksilver Chest, then drop down the edge of the roof back to solid ground.

Yank to shield to the right to get it into position, then man the wheel crank and turn it to open the gate. Now comes the second conundrum: you have to freeze both of the gears on the left and right sides of the shield to keep the gate from closing.

You can do this with a Hex Bubble, which is able to retain the Axe’s freeze for 10 seconds. Fire a Sigil Arrow at one of the gears, then quickly throw the Axe into it, recall it, then throw the axe into the other gear and leave it there. You’ll have only a couple of seconds to sprint inside! The Legendary Chest will be directly in front of you.

If you want to get the N Rune’s torch in this room, and progress further into the ruins, you’ll have to let your companion in! Do that by breaking the target on the right-hand side of the gate.

The chest contains Sigil Punishment accessory that increases damage towards Hexed enemies, and a Folkvagnr Whetstone, which can be used to upgrade your companion’s sword.

  • Contains: Rond of Purification

This Legendary is found as you climb up the cliff following your first Raider encounter in this area. At a certain point you’ll have the option to keep climbing up, or go left: you’ll want to go left.

Here, turn around and look for the broken square spot in the cliff wall. Drop down the edge of the cliff, and you’ll be able to smash through it, with the chest found directly in front of you.

The chest contains the Rond of Purification. With it equipped, then when Kratos is afflicted by Frost, Burn, Poison or Bifrost, a Shield Strike (double-tapping L1) will cleanse him of the ailment and deal that status’ damage to the target!

  • Contains: Bow Ability - Falling Sky

This Legendary Chest is found early in your first visit to Helheim. Early into the level you’ll emerge onto the Docks of Vadgelmir, where you’ll eventually have to push a crate with Thrud.

Climb up the crate to the upper level, then look left: check behind the crates here to find the Legendary Chest!

The chest contains the Falling Sky ability, which bombards the area ahead of Atreus with Sonic Arrows. This can come in handy if you want to use a powerful Sonic Arrow move but don’t want to switch out of Sigil Arrows.

Docks of Vadgelmir - Legendary Chest-U 2

This Legendary Chest is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.

  • Contains: Shield - Onslaught Shield

While this Legendary Chest is technically located in the Docks of Vadgelmir, it isn’t available until much later when you return here as Kratos. Once you do and have defeated the boss, head down the stairs and around the corner to another door puzzle. The chest will be on your right.

The chest contains the Onslaught Shield, which has Kratos Shield Rush enemies when you Double Tap the L1 button. If Kratos charges a certain distance, then he’ll launch enemies into the air on impact.

If you also got the Shatter Star Shield in The Abandoned Village in Vanaheim, then this is the last shield you need to find for the Phalanx Trophy! If you still haven’t gotten it, then you may not have purchased the Dauntless and/or Stone Wall Shield from Brok and Sindri’s.

Gnipahellir Landing Legendary Chests

Gnipahellir Landing - Legendary Chest-U 1

This Legendary Chest is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.

  • Contains: Runic Summon - Wrath of the Wolf

The second Legendary Chest in the Docks of Vadgelmir is just about impossible to miss, however it’s found before the map is revealed for Gnipahellir Landing itself.

As Atreus and Thrud go through a tower on the East side of the docks, Thrud will push a box out of the way so you can zipline to a high ledge.

Here, kick the gold chain down, then head forward and left. The chest will be at the far end of the dock, which is also the spot where you can shoot down the crate!

This chest contains the Wrath of the Wolf Runic Summon. The backbone of many a playstyle in 2018, this summons three wolves that deal a good amount of damage as they pounce through enemies and across the battlefield.

The Gleaming Bale - Legendary Chest-U 1

This Legendary Chest is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.

  • Contains: Blades Heavy Runic Attack - Tame the Beast

This Legendary Chest is found as you progress through Helheim as Kratos. After solving the gate puzzle in The Gleaming Bale, you’ll emerge at a bridge area where you have to toss a Draupnir Spear into a Wind Vent in order to cross a game, fighting Hel-Walkers along the way. The chest will be on your left right after you swing across the gap.

The chest contains the Tame the Beast Heavy Runic Attack for the Blades of Chaos. Pound-for-pound, it’s the strongest Heavy Runic Attack for the Blades available thus far in the game.

  • Contains: Spear Light Runic Attack - Thrust of a Thousand Soldiers

This Legendary Chest is found near the end of the Shipyard of the Fallen area. After crossing an open area gouged by Garm’s rampage, you’ll vault over a wooden beam and kill two Hel-Raiders. You’ll next have to cross a gap by plugging a Wind Vent with a Draupnir Spear: you can do that by taking a right-hand path. Once you swing across the chest will be across the gap and around the corner!

The chest contains the Thrust of a Thousand Soldiers, a Light Runic Attack for the Draupnir Spear. While equal to the Mountain Splitter in terms of damage, it leaves spears in the target, which you can then detonate with the Triangle Button for even more damage!
