Most managers should draft a WR with their first pick this season in fantasy football. Six of the top 12 players in our fantasy football rankings are WRs, 5 are RBs, and a single TE slipped into the top 12. The main reason to try out an RB/WR stack is to increase the ceiling of your team—having both CeeDee Lamb and Tony Pollard in a week where the Cowboys' offense was incredible would be nearly unbeatable—so it makes sense to try and find the team that will have the maximum number of spike weeks.

In non-PPR leagues, you probably want to start as many running backs as you can. In full-PPR leagues, you should look to focus on wide receivers. In half-PPR leagues, I lean toward running backs, but strong wide receivers are still very viable. Ultimately, there is no objectively correct decision.

Wide receiver is the right first-round pick outside of 1.01: Christian McCaffrey is the right pick at 1.01, but a wide receiver is the way to go at any other pick in the first round.

In Dynasty, the answer is the same as it has always been. Your team is ready to compete when you are beyond stacked at wide receiver. You can add the running backs when you get into your win-now window, but as fast as they are falling off, I wouldn't add them a second earlier.

Christian McCaffrey is the consensus No. 1 overall pick in fantasy football. He finished as the top RB in fantasy scoring last season and as the No. 2 RB overall in 2022. The challenge after "CMC" is picked is to decide between two ascending stars at the position. Both of them are ideal No. 2 picks at RB.

If they already have a quarterback, you should probably pick a running back first, knowing they are unlikely to pick another quarterback. Conversely, if they haven't picked a quarterback yet, it might be best to draft one first to prevent them from taking the player you want.
