Fantasy WR PPR Rankings Week 4: Who to start, sit at wide receiver in fantasy football | Sporting News (2024)

Figuring out which wide receivers to start and which to sit in any given week isn't easy. We know there will always be surprise breakouts and busts every Sunday. Our Week 4 fantasy WR PPR rankings aim to help you make those tough start 'em, sit 'em decisions.

It's always tough to trust players who disappointed the week before, especially in good matchups, but you still need to ride with DeAndre Hopkins next week against the Rams and Jalen Ramsey. Rondale Moore also laid a complete egg, but he should see high passing volume in that contest. Christian Kirk, who's had three good games to start the season, is also in also play. We also like Deebo Samuel (vs. Seahawks), Allen Robinson (vs. Lions), and Terry McLaurin (@ Falcons) to bounce back, if there were any doubts.

WEEK 4 PPR RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

Specifically in PPR, several players stand out this week, with Cole Beasley (vs. Houston), Hunter Renfrow (@ Chargers), and Tyler Boyd (vs. Jaguars) having real chances to eat and break into lineups as WR3s.Robby Anderson (@ Chargers) has some bounce-back flex appeal in a favorable matchup, especially with more targets being up for grabs with Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) out. The Cowboys' defense has been bad, and D.J. Moore will draw coverage from Trevon Diggs, who has looked like a stud early in his sophom*ore campaign. Brandon Aiyuk (vs. Seahawks) finally saw some usage in Week 3, so he's back in play against an awful Seahawks secondary.

WEEK 4 STANDARD RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

Several WRs are dealing with QB issues, but Brandin Cooks (@ Bills), all the Steelers who suit up against the Packers (especially Diontae Johnson if he returns), and Jakobi Meyers (vs. Buccaneers) will be tough to sit in PPR leagues. They are simply getting too many targets. The Jaguars trio (@ Bengals) are similar, though much more high risk. Marvin Jones is the only one we feel even somewhat confident about.

WEEK 4 DFS LINEUPS: DraftKings | FanDuel | Yahoo

As referenced with the Steelers, injuries are certainly issues at this position, with the Giants (@ Saints) also having several receivers who figure to be "questionable." Sterling Shepard (hamstring) is the best PPR play of the bunch, but depending on who's active, there might not be any recommended starters here, as Collin Johnson led all WRs in targets in Week 3. (Update: Both Shepard and Slayton are out.) Tennessee might be missing A.J. Brown (hamstring), which would open the door for one of its Week 3 surprises (Chester Rogers, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine) in a favorable matchup against the Jets. (Update: Both Brown and Julio Jones are out.)Tyler Lockett (knee), Antonio Brown (COVID), and Will Fuller could also leave holes in lineups, though it's tough to see any real "PPR sleepers" emerging from those situations unless you count Jaylen Waddle (vs. Colts), who had 12catches and 13 targets in Week 3.

When should I draft a WR in fantasy football? ›

Most managers should draft a WR with their first pick this season in fantasy football. Six of the top 12 players in our fantasy football rankings are WRs, 5 are RBs, and a single TE slipped into the top 12. But your draft position determines the best player available when it is your turn to select.

What position should you pick first in NFL fantasy draft? ›

Some fantasy leaguers try to form a pre-draft plan of how to construct their roster by position. For example, they might intend to start with a running back in the first round, then a wide receiver in the second, another wide receiver in the third, and a second running back in the fourth.

Are RB or WR more valuable in PPR? ›

When you get to the level of PPR performance where one player basically wins you the week, 30+ points, a WR is almost twice as likely to do it than a RB. No need to go further with this. It's always going to be true that WRs are more explosive than RBs in PPR.

Who should I draft with the 4th pick in fantasy football? ›

Round 1, Pick 4 (4) - RB Breece Hall, Jets

With the consensus top three players — Christian McCaffrey, CeeDee Lamb, and Tyreek Hill — off the board, Hall is my favorite pick at the fourth spot on a running back-focused build.

Should I draft WR and RB from the same team? ›

The main reason to try out an RB/WR stack is to increase the ceiling of your team—having both CeeDee Lamb and Tony Pollard in a week where the Cowboys' offense was incredible would be nearly unbeatable—so it makes sense to try and find the team that will have the maximum number of spike weeks.

Is it better to start a RB or WR in Flex? ›

In non-PPR leagues, you probably want to start as many running backs as you can. In full-PPR leagues, you should look to focus on wide receivers. In half-PPR leagues, I lean toward running backs, but strong wide receivers are still very viable. Ultimately, there is no objectively correct decision.

Who should go #1 in fantasy football? ›

Wide receiver is the right first-round pick outside of 1.01: Christian McCaffrey is the right pick at 1.01, but a wide receiver is the way to go at any other pick in the first round.

Is it better to have more running backs or wide receivers? ›

In Dynasty, the answer is the same as it has always been. Your team is ready to compete when you are beyond stacked at wide receiver. You can add the running backs when you get into your win-now window, but as fast as they are falling off, I wouldn't add them a second earlier.

Who has the highest WR fantasy scores? ›

Cooper Kupp has earned the most PPR fantasy points by a wide receiver in a season, with 439.5 points in 2021.

Who should I pick for running back in fantasy football? ›

Christian McCaffrey is the consensus No. 1 overall pick in fantasy football. He finished as the top RB in fantasy scoring last season and as the No. 2 RB overall in 2022. The challenge after "CMC" is picked is to decide between two ascending stars at the position. Both of them are ideal No. 2 picks at RB.

Should I pick a quarterback or running back first in fantasy football? ›

If they already have a quarterback, you should probably pick a running back first, knowing they are unlikely to pick another quarterback. Conversely, if they haven't picked a quarterback yet, it might be best to draft one first to prevent them from taking the player you want.
