Where was Treasure Island filmed at? ›

Treasure Island was filmed in 1989 on location in North Devon, England, in Jamaica, and also at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England. The replica ship Bounty II was used as the fictional Hispaniola on film.

Isla de Pinos near Cuba, which served as a supply base for pirates for about 300 years, is believed to have inspired Treasure Island. Norman Island in the British Virgin Islands was supposedly mentioned to Stevenson by a sailor uncle, and also possesses a "Spyglass Hill" like the fictional Treasure Island.

Today the island is open to the public and is home to more than 2,000 residents, commercial tenants, restaurants, schools, arts and athletic organizations, and community organizations.

The Schooner Hispaniola

The schooner was purchased for the filming of the Disney adventure Treasure Island. The reconfigured Ryelands became the Hispaniola and had a starring role in the film.
