Summary[]
U.A. Heroes Battle[]
It is Winter Break and all the students of Class 1-A are forced to hunker down in their dorms at Heights Alliance until they can go home for New Years' Eve. Some were getting comfortable with their activities, such as Ochaco Uraraka and Toru Hagakure building a snowman outside in the frosty snow, and Tenya Ida reading a magazine about glasses. Others, however, didn't take their stay very well, such as Denki Kaminari and Minoru Mineta, who were all downright bored being stuck in their dormitories for days.
Hanta Sero suggests that they can play some card games, but they both angrily refused to do another card game as they've been playing the same one for days. Tenya reminds them of their reason for staying in the dorms for their winter break, and Momo Yaoyorozu interjects that it's because of the constant attacks committed by the League of Villains that has forced the U.A. teachers to buff up their defense against them. Since they only get to go home for one day at New Years' Eve, the faculty will have to escort every student in 1-A back home, and if there aren't any more staff to cover for them, then they'll have to get Pro Heroes to come and help escort them all back home. They chide and express disappointment to Minoru and Denki for complaining so much while the staff are working around the clock trying to keep them safe, much to their irritation, but accepted their reason.
Minoru and Denki weren't the only ones who aren't thrilled of staying in the dorms as well. Eijiro Kirishima was disappointed that, not only are they forced to stay for the break, but they also had to cancel one of U.A.'s biggest festivals of the year, which Mina Ashido agrees to; Yuga Aoyama and Rikido Sato also voice their disappointment. Shoto Todoroki, as well as Ochaco and Toru who returned from playing in the snow, ask what they are talking about, and Mina answers about the U.A. New Years' Eve Festival. Shoto recognizes that event to be very significant as they host the festival at the shrine every year. Fumikage Tokoyami couldn't agree more as he remarks about the feast at the festival. Almost everyone agrees about wanting to see the festival, and Mashirao Ojiro asks Izuku Midoriya to give them the details, since he was a special guest last year prior to the start of their year. Izuku starts off talking about the exciting games everyone gets to play, such as a giant hanetsuki, a giant daruma drop, giant tops, and the exquisite traditional mochi made by Lunch Rush, much to Ochaco's excitement, along with the winner of the U.A. School Festival Beauty Pageant acting as the shrine maiden, much to Denki and Minoru's delight.
All the students were thrilled to hear about such a fun party to attend, but then come to realize that they can't host their own festival since it's snowing outside and they don't have the necessary supplies to do it all. Fortunately, Mirio Togata suddenly appears at the dormitory, surprising the class with him inside Ochaco and Toru's snowman. He proceeds to break free from the snowman, much to the class' annoyance after being sprayed with snow. Mirio then explained he came by to show 1-A a surprise: a sneak peek of a brand new device that will be sponsored by U.A. and be launched in next year's festival, created by the U.A. Support Class. All of 1-A are eager to know what kind of sneak peak activity they are going to do, and Mirio, just as he was getting dressed, introduces 1-A to a card game called "U.A. Heroes Battle".
U.A. Heroes Battle is a card game where players use any students from the U.A. Hero Course to battle each other. Mirio shows the class a deck that contains the cards of every student from 1-A, including their names, their Quirks, their Hero Names, and their Hero costumes. The only significant difference is their eyes were bigger and more cartoony than normal. Minoru wonders how they are going to play these cards since some have stats, descriptions, and other information to determine the card type. Mirio responds by introducing the class to a highly advanced battle board created by the Support Course. Mirio explains how the battle board works: by placing a "Grape Juice" card on the board as an example, it projects a 3-D hologram of the actual hero student by scanning its abilities so they can battle. As he demonstrates this, the Grape Juice character is scanned and projected, and shows off his Pop Off throw. Mirio also pointed out that the board has an A.I. computer that will give them detailed instructions as they play along. With that, the class gives Mirio their thanks for bringing them the game as he leaves the dorms. All the students are hooked into the game and unanimously agree to it.
Before they can start, Tenya asks how they are going to play the game. Izuku realizes that there is an on-button on the device and presses it, which activates the board and projects a Mei Hatsume hologram, revealing her as the designer of the board. Through the hologram, Mei explains the rules of the game: the players will be battling each other using 1-A themselves or extras. She brings out an "Ingenium" card to demonstrate that the A.I. on the board will automatically scan the character card's abilities such as attacks, defense, and Ultimate Moves. The extras are all known as "Helper Heroes" such as the famous Pro Heroes in the country, but they can only be used once before they disappear, and they are set at random, so she advises to use the extras carefully. Each players will have three cards to draw from and take turns placing them on the board. The board will set the stage and execute scenarios using knowledge from the students' previous battles.
The players must either defeat their opponent until they cannot battle or by being thrown out of bounds. The player who has defeated all three of their opponent's cards first wins the battle. Tenya is incredibly chagrined as he's forced to witness Mei re-enact their battle from the U.A. Sports Festival as part of the demonstration. The Mei hologram advises them to read and understand the Quirks of their classmates and the extras to win the game, and wishes them good luck. Once the rules were explained, all the class vigorously do rock-paper-scissors to see who will play first, and the first players to play are Izuku and Ojiro.
Izuku Midoriya vs. Mashirao Ojiro[]
The battle board takes place at the Ground Omega where Izuku plays the "Earphone Jack" card and Mashirao plays the "Sugarman" card. Earphone Jack uses her Quirk to listen to Sugarman's footsteps. Once he sees her, Sugarman realizes it was too late as Earphone Jack uses Heartbeat Distortion to create supersonic sound waves on the ground, creating massive earthquakes that sends Sugarman flying out of bounds, much to the real Kyoka's delight and Rikido's disappointment. Mashirao plays his next card: "Chargebolt". Since Earphone Jack can attack blind spots, Mashirao has Chargebolt unleash Indiscriminate Shock 1.3 Million Volts all over the battlefield, shocking Earphone Jack out of the game, but like Denki's weakness, Chargebolt goes stupid after exceeding his wattage limit.
Seizing the chance to fight back, Izuku plays the "Can't Stop Twinkling" card. Can't Stop Twinkling executes a full blast of his Navel Laser that strikes Chargebolt directly, only to completely obliterate him to smithereens, much to Izuku and Mashirao's horror, with the only thing remaining being the Sharpshooting Gear in the crater. Denki is mortified, calling Izuku a monster for being "that" guy, much to Izuku's embarrassment who proclaimed that he was simply trying to get Chargebolt out of bounds. He then notices that Can't Stop Twinkling's stomach has begun hurting, just like Yuga's Quirk, so Mashirao plays his last card, "Tailman", taking advantage of Can't Stop Twinkling being unable to move, and bluntly pushing him out of bounds. With one last card, Izuku plays the "Shoto" card, who proceeds to completely freeze Tailman in ice, letting Izuku win the game. Mashirao is disappointed to see an exact re-enactment of their fight from the Battle Trial.
Soon after, everyone wanted their turns next with Mina suggesting a team battle. As the students play, Izuku stares down at his "Deku" card, wondering if the A.I. knows his strengths and weaknesses since he's gotten stronger and better than before.
Boys vs. Girls: Hanta, Minoru, and Fumikage vs. Tsuyu, Mina, and Ochaco[]
The board shifts to the mountain arena, and Minoru suggests a battle between the boys and girls, only since they are also on the same side, though the girls are concerned since there's not lot of girls in the class. Minoru tells them they're going to be using their respective characters while the girls gets to choose whoever girls they decide to use, and they agreed. Minoru tells Hanta to go first, which he obliges by playing the "Cellophane" card. In secret, Minoru wanted Hanta to go first because he wanted to see the girls being trapped by the Tape, writhing in their sexy bodies. Ochaco starts off with an extra card, which generates into "Mt. Lady", much to Hanta and Minoru's shock, as Mt. Lady simply steps on Cellophane. Since Mt. Lady is an extra card, she disappears, leaving the girls with only two cards remaining.
Minoru goes up next, telling Fumikage to play last which he agrees, and plays his "Grape Juice" card. Like before, Minoru plans to use his character card's Pop Off to trap the girls into his balls and stick them, but Mina plays next and activates her "Pinky" card. Grape Juice tries to attack with Pop Off, but Pinky shoots back with Acid Shot, melting Grape Juice into a puddle, to Minoru's disgust, even though Mina claims he deserves it. Fumikage plays his "Tsukuyomi" card, and instantly knocks Pinky out of bounds. However, the girls knew they were going to send in Fumikage last since he's the strongest in the team, and Tsuyu plays the "Invisible Girl" card, which uses Warp Refraction on Dark Shadow, and since Dark Shadow is weak to light, the A.I. declares that "Tsukuyomi" is out and lost the will to fight, declaring the girls the winners. The boys were utterly upset since Dark Shadow didn't even fight back, which Minoru threateningly demands to know who invented the "busted A.I." even though Izuku tries to calm him down.
Momo Yaoyorozu vs. Eijiro Kirishima[]
Eijiro wanted to go next and so does Momo. The battle board takes them to Ground Gamma, where Momo adjusted the settings to make it more interesting: now both players can play two cards instead of one. Eijiro carefully picks which cards that synergizes together, and plays the "Tentacole" card for observation alongside his own "Red Riot" for close combat.
Momo accepts the challenge and plays her two cards: one of them is the "Creati" card. She creates four massive cannons and shoots a barrage at Eijiro's characters. Red Riot activates Unbreakable so he can withstand the barrage, but suddenly, the cannonballs turn into smokescreen, blinding the characters and Eijiro, who wonders what's the second card. Right out of the blue, the second card is revealed to be "Uravity", who touches both Red Riot and Tentacole with her Zero Gravity and floats them out of bounds, earning Momo a victory.
Toru Hagakure vs. Rikido Sato[]
Toru and Rikido are up next in a single round, and Rikido activates an extra card which generates into "Present Mic", which the narration proceeds to hype up to an extravagant degree. In response, Toru plays the "Anima" card, and just like during the First Term Final Exam, Anima uses his Voice to summon hundreds of bugs to swarm all over Present Mic, defeating Rikido, while the board shuts down temporarily in defiance.
Kyoka Jiro vs. Denki Kaminari[]
Kyoka and Denki battle against each other next, and Kyoka draws an extra card which summons "Grand", much to everyone's confusion since he's not a student from U.A. Grand unleashes Tremoring Earth, burying Cellophane into the ground. Denki was speechless after losing again, and Hanta was displeased that his card was so weak.
Izuku Midoriya vs. Katsuki Bakugo[]
All the noise wakes up Katsuki Bakugo from his long nap, demanding to know what they are doing. Eijiro and Denki introduce him to the card game and ask if he wanted a turn. He feigns interest, but demands to know which cards are the strongest, and they all pointed out, with the exception of the teachers and Heroes from the extras, "Shoto", "Deku", and "Bakugo" are the three strongest cards from the deck. Shoto has the highest win-rate, Deku has good versatility, and even though Bakugo has the best offense, Eijiro points out that his card still lacks in teamwork, much to Katsuki's anger. Since this was a chance to see how strong he really is, Katsuki challenges Izuku to a one-on-one fight with their respective cards. Izuku agrees, and wonders what kind of scenario their characters would do in a fight against each other.
Izuku and Katsuki start off by playing their respective cards: Deku and Bakugo. The fight begins with Bakugo firing a barrage of AP Shot: Auto-Cannon, and in response, Deku powers up to Full Cowl and counters with Delaware Smash Air Force. The compressed air bullets hit every shot, as Deku and Bakugo charge at each other, with Deku firing a single shot of Air Force at point-blank range, but Bakugo dodges it by blasting in the air with Explosive Speed. Deku turns around and delivers a Full Cowl - Shoot Style back, but Bakugo uses his Explosion to bounce back, getting some distance before firing a torrent of Auto-Cannon at Deku. The battle takes to the skies as Deku jumps up and tries to deliver a kick attack, but Bakugo manages to dodge each strike attempts, with both characters constantly cancelling each other out with Air Force and Auto-Cannon.
From a spectator point of view, all the class were watching the battle with astonishment, with Tenya impressed of how the battle was unfolding despite being a simulation. Shoto comments that the A.I. was able to impressively recreate every attack and fighting style both Deku and Bakugo have.
As the battle rages on, Izuku comes to realize something about his character, that he is keeping his distance before rushing in to attack, concluding that the A.I. recreated only the old battle style he used to do before. Katsuki was also thinking the same thing since he notices the flaws of his attacks and he is better than he was before. Right before Deku and Bakugo could charge right at each other with their most powerful attacks, the time limit was reached, ending the battle in the draw. Katuski rebukes that it is unacceptable to end in a draw, and both Izuku and Katsuki argue over who would get the drop first due to their respective improvements. The A.I. declares that the next battle will be a sudden-death round, so each player will draw one card and place them to see which one is the strongest.
Both Katsuki and Izuku draw one card. Katsuki plays an extra card, and to everyone's shock and surprise, Katsuki pulls off the rarest and strongest card in the deck: "All Might". Because of this, Minoru points out that Izuku has no chance of beating someone like that. Ochaco notices that Izuku also pulled an extra card, and activates it; however, the extra card generates into a puppy dog, much to Izuku's confusion. With his opponent a dog, Katsuki smiles now that his victory is all but assured, and tells All Might to destroy the dog. Just as All Might approaches the dog, he suddenly bends over and ends up taking the dog into his arms, wondering if it was lost. And so, All Might jumps up and flies out of bounds, ending the battle in a draw yet again. Izuku was nearly tearful, happy that the A.I. recreated All Might's greatest trait to save anyone, even a dog; however, Katsuki was completely dumbfounded when the battle ended with no clear winner, and that his card was wasted. Infuriated, Katsuki goes berserk and powers up his Explosion, causing Tenya to panic who yells at everyone to run away. As everyone escapes, Izuku is so caught in the moment that he doesn't notice as Katsuki unleashes a massive explosion to destroy the battle board, along with the Heights Alliance dormitory itself.
After Shota Aizawa discovered the game and the destruction, he furiously implemented a new rule: 1-A is permanently banned from card games.
